Anyone who knows anything about cruiser motorbikes knows the name Harley Davidson. This internationally recognized name has been associated with the motorbike industry from as early as the 1900’s, where creators William Harley and Arthur Davidson first thought of making a cruiser motor-bicycle.

Harley Davidson motorbikes are popular for being a dependable piece of equipment. Part of their durability stems from the fact that they are heavier than most motorbikes- meaning they can take more of a beating over the years of wear and tear. While they won’t be able to do many of the tricks a Motocross bike may, they are better suited for long trips or leisure rides through the town.

The name Harley Davidson has had a poor reputation in American history, as popular biking gangs such as Hell’s Angels became notorious for riding such bikes. The belief that only bike gang members owned Harleys quickly passed, however, as future generations found out that one can’t stereotype riders that appreciate a smooth and invigorating ride that other bikes can’t provide.

Harley owners are fairly fanatical about their machines, as they very well should be. It is now popular to have cosmetic makeovers for stock Harley motorcycles, where additions are made to make each Harley reflect the personality or creativity of the rider. These custom motorcycles can easily costs tens of thousands of dollars in additional costs, but as the trends show, it is a very popular course of action for anyone who can afford the Harley in the first place.

Harleys aren’t always molded to be a certain type of bike. The Harley Davidson company has branched out into separate uses for the bike so that it could appeal to a broader spectrum of customers. The Harley Sportster is a good example of how Harley Davidson bikes can also value performance more so than other factors- much like a sports bike.

Getting a nostalgic or modern-looking Harley is a tough choice, especially since most Harleys in production today can cater to both taste palettes. Older-styled bikes can be seen in modern Softail designs, while newer VRSC models will show a different side of the Harley Davidson name that few will associate with past models.

Final Thoughts

It’s been a long time coming, and Harleys certainly earned their name as the undisputed king of the motorcycle industry. They won’t come cheap, so be prepared to take an extra mortgage out on the house just to afford one of these road hogs- and extra for any type of customizations.
