The best method to avoid getting a speeding ticket is to not drive. But most people work so this wont be possible for the masses. If you don’t like the thought of riding the bus then read through the following tips so hopefully you can avoid your next speeding ticket.

1. Don’t exceed the speed limit. Sounds obvious buy in reality the only way not to get a speeding ticket is to avoid speeding. If you must speed, save it for the highway.

2. Be prepared. Avoid speeding tickets by not standing out from the crowd. You can help yourself with this by going around your car and making sure all lights are functioning. Your mirrors, blinkers, headlights and tail lights need to all function correctly.

3. Quality of your vehicle. Fix small issues like cracked windows and use some touch up paint if your car needs it. Keeping it clean and up to date will help you avoid the eyes of the law.

4. Keep alert. Stay awake while driving. Cops can be anywhere. Take notice of things like bridges and up coming turns in the road, these can be speeding ticket magnets.. Sit up in your seat so you have better visibility.

5. Suspicion. Driving a beat up 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass in a wealthy neighborhood (especially at night) will trigger any officer’s suspicion. I hate to say it, but a black or Hispanic individual driving in a predominately white neighborhood can also trigger an officer’s suspicion.

6. Don’t attract unnecessary attention. Everyone knows that driving a nice high performance car will always draw more attention than say a Ford Taurus will.

7. Be wary of curves. Approach curves carefully as you never what may be waiting on the other side to give you a speeding ticket.

8. Stay out of the left lane. A lot of the police officers I personally know and others I’ve talked to admit that they target the left lane for speeding tickets. Its called the fast lane for a reason.

9. Know your city. Does your town or city have photo radar enforcement? These are becoming more popular as a way to automatically give out speeding tickets. You may think you only see a regular SUV on the side of the road, when in fact it could be a photo radar unit.

10. Brake lights. This is a sure fire way to know if trouble is lurking up ahead. Whenever one is traveling on the highway they rarely will apply their brakes, unless someone cut in front of them or they are exiting the highway.

11. Know what the police drive. Most drivers are oblivious to the fact that the car next to them with tinted windows is an unmarked police vehicle, until it pulls them over and gives them a speeding ticket! They will usually be the same model of cars as the marked police cruisers, just painted like the civilian version.

12. Watch out for speed traps. Speed traps are everywhere. Knowing how to spot one and where they may be in your area can be a great way to avoid a speeding ticket. Check out Speedtrap.org for a comprehensive list of speed traps anywhere in the US.

You cant avoid all speeding tickets unfortunately, but you can take some common sense approaches to cut down on them.
