They not only are manufactured with comfort in mind but also on their ability to shield your head and sometimes the face from injury. When thinking about one for your own use keep this in mind. A full- face helmet is probably the most used kind of helmet. The helmet of this kind engulfs not only the head but offers protection to the face. These helmets protect you well cut are not necessarily built for comfort. They have been accused of causing the neck to be hurt. These claims are however unsubstantiated.

There is a helmet that is not up to par as far as safety is concerned that can still be legally used. It is called a half helmet. These helmet are more round shaped and resembles the open face helmets and they only provide some protections for the top of the head and gives none to the base of the head and the neck at the back. The face is not safe in these helmets. They also don’t stay in place and shift on the head this is blamed on the shape.

As with the full-face motorcycle helmets the open face helmets truly do protect the head but unlike the full-face ones the open face ones do not protect the face and chin. The rider who may prefer to have this wider range of vision will find this helmet fits the bill but they do sacrifices greatly on safety for their face. Some models do have the mounts for an individual to add a visor. Motorcyclists do seem to enjoy using this particular style of helmet.

A helmet that goes over the not only the chin but over the entire face and head is the flip up helmet. The flip up helmets is as safe to use on a regular basis as the full-face helmet. The unique thing about this helmet is that you can flip up the face and chin guard when you need to access your face. This means if the rider wants to eat in a hurry without lifting his whole helmet off he can so this helmet does add convenience.

For the sport of motocross a helmet has been designed that has some similarities to the full-face helmets. But with the visor and chin guards being expanded this is where these two helmets are not similar. Part of the visor is created in such a way as to allow users to wear goggles replacing the visor. The chin guard is designed for added function as motocross riders fall a lot in motocross and often land on there face and added protection is given through the design of this helmet.

One of the motorcycle helmets that are not approved for safety because it does not qualify is the beanie helmet. But they look close enough to the legal helmets to fool some. These helmets are worn by riders who do not like the heaviness of the true safety helmets but don’t want to get a ticket by not having a helmet is not advised. Research and try on helmets to find which of the many motorcycle helmets you feel comfortable in while being protected.

It can be confusing to make a decision when looking at all the styles of motorcycle helmets on which will fit you best.
