If you are in the market for a new car soon, consider taking in either a government or a police auction. No matter what type of vehicle you are looking for - car, SUV, or truck, chances are you will find it there and be able to buy it at a fraction of the going rate.
In years past these auctions were a closely guarded secret, out of the reach of the general public. And while you still can’t get into a dealer-only auction, you can go to one of your local open-to-the-public car auctions or check out one of the online public auction sites. It’s amazing how inexpensive shipping a car can be, particularly if you have saved thousands on the purchase of your new car.
If you are wondering if people are going to these auctions in droves you might be surprised by the answer. A common misconception by the public is that all you will find there are old, delapidated cars which is definitely not true. Also, people still haven’t got used to the idea of these auctions now be readily found instead of some closely guarded secret.
Now you might be asking where these auctions get all the vehicles that they auction off. Top quality cars, trucks and SUVs are seized by police and government departments such as the DEA, IRS, ATF and the FBI all the time. Another source is company or fleet cars that are being upgraded. In both cases, the agencies involved simply want to get rid of them.
If you want to save a lot of money, go to a car auction. Public car auction prices are a lot better than regular retail prices for the same vehicle. You can find a great car, in super condition at a car auction if you know what you are looking for.
A mechanical inspection is important to do before bidding on one of these vehicles at a car auction. Usually later model cars have Manufacturer’s Warranties still in place. This is good, but save yourself from any unnecessary stress by doing an inspection anyway.
By doing a couple of simple tests, you can see if a potential car has any glitches you should be aware of. First, start up the car, place your foot on the brake and then put the car in reverse and then back into drive a few times. Make sure there is no unusual clunking sound or jumping forward when you change gears. Check for signs of leaking and/or spots on the ground under the car and pass up any car that has thick gooey, pasty oil.
To summarize, know what type of vehicle you’re looking for and its’ value beforehand so that you will know if you’re making a smart purchase. Make sure to either inspect the vehicle yourself or have a mechanic take a look at it before bidding. Neither the government or the police are in the car sales business (nor do they want to be) and because of that, there’s a good chance you will find just the vehicle you’re after and at a very good price at a government or police auction. Just think - a whole new way to buy a car - no more haggling or stressful negotiating!
