The right car insurance: It is easier to get the right car insurance if you’re aware of the different options available. For instance, if you’re storing the car for a length of time, you can insure with Comprehensive Storage Coverage only. This type coverage is ideal as the car should be safe from a liability or collision claim.

When you file a claim, a deductible is the amount you pay first before your insurer pays the remaining balance. Often people select lower deductibles, so when they have to submit a claim, their out-of-pocket expenses are minimal. But the truth is, the higher your collision and comprehensive deductibles the lower your auto insurance premium. The savings by increasing your deductible to say $1,000 from $250 are significant-you can save hundreds of dollars off your insurance premium.

Insurers will be the first to tell you that insurance is for you and your protection, so skimping on liability and medical payments is not where you want to create savings in your premiums.

Lowering your coverage: As you’re working with your insurer to increase your deductibles, you should also look at decreasing your coverage in areas that make sense. You may want to consider lowering the coverage of comprehensive collision, liability or medical payments.

Stick to a policy for a longer period of time: Well this is most basic answer to how to get cheap car insurance. Stick to a policy which is of a longer term. When you decide to get a your car’s insurance policy for an year you get a benefit of non changing rates of interest which may fluctuate if you choose your car’s insurance policy over a shorter period of time.

Anti-theft Protection: Almost all cars produced now have a few devices aimed at protecting the owner from auto theft. Most insurers will give discounts to you for being a proactive owner. Depending on the state in which you live, you may qualify for additional discounts for such things as window sketching.

Consolidating Policies: Volume discounts make sense even to insurance companies. They want your business, so give it to them. Combining your car, home and/or renter’s insurance can save you as much as 25% on your premiums.

As with everything in life, there is no one best fit for everyone. What works for me won’t necessarily work for my neighbor. The best bet is to compare companies, prices and options to get the optimal results.
